Sailing

...is not a science to be practiced with precision. It is an art, a craft. By its very nature, sailing is enigmatic and requires abstract thought. It takes both mental and physical effort necessitating total involvement, and this involvement is what being a sailor is all about.

Welcome Aboard!

Mark Twain Lake Sailing Association offers a hearty welcome to all who come to Mark Twain Lake in search of sailing adventure. Our sailors travel from Iowa, Florida, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri to sail upon the 18,000 acres of water at The Clarence Cannon Dam and Mark Twain Lake. MTLSA membership includes members and their families and more than 60 various classes of sailboats, both docked and trailored.

Getting Underway

MTLSA members are encouraged to participate in the Association’s organized events. Year ‘round, we boast of more than 15 activities sure to keep you on an even keel with your sailing education and entertainment.

Under Sail with Communications

MTLSA publishes a monthly newsletter, The Scuttlebutt, which offers fun and interesting stories chronicling MTLSA events and helpful articles on emergencies, inspections, and other sailing topics. View sample The Scuttlebutt,

Members can view archived issues of The Scuttlebutt on the secure members only web site.

Standing Rigging

MTLSA was formed in February of 1988. The purpose of our Association is to promote seamanship, education, and boating safety to boaters of all types. More information can be found in our bylaws.

We also want to represent sailors by providing a forum to discuss and determine the needs of sailors on Mark Twain Lake. The unified voice MTLSA communicates to marina operators, the Corps of Engineers, the Missouri State Water Patrol, and other federal, state, and local agencies.

In 2008 MTLSA celebrated our 20th anniversary. Go to this 20th Anniversary special page for stories on the special events of this banner year.

Running Rigging

Our sailing association was created by sailors for sailors. Our Commodore is the Chief Executive Officer of MTLSA. The Vice-Commodore/Fleet Captain, Secretary/Public Relations Director, Treasurer, and Newsletter Editor are the elected officers who make up the rest of our board of directors.
